Unstoppable - Review

Do you remember the 90s movie "Speed", that awesome action movie in which...well you know it yourself. Tony Scott's latest movie "Unstoppable" works the same way, except that it's boring as fuck -.-

The plot: Unstoppable focuses on a runaway train carrying a cargo of toxic chemicals that puts an engineer and his conductor in a race against time. They're chasing the runaway train in a separate locomotive and need to bring it under control before it derails on a curve and causes a toxic spill that will decimate a town.

The plot is constructed more or less like a cheap version of "Speed", except that this time there is no villain. well except maybe the fat guy that let the train loose or the train itself. I think the movie is supposed to be some kind of catastrophe movie, but an unspectacular one.

The acting is ok but the thing is that the movie has almost zero character development. It's bad enough that the characters are some of the most boring ones that i saw this year, but that the background story is totally unengaging and that the dialogue is uninspired, is too much.

Denzel Washington and Chris Pine are good actors (especially Denzel) but this time i think they both chose the wrong movie. They do their job well but i think their characters are just not written good enough. Almost everything they say has almost no purpose or substance.

The entire movie follows this pattern: train crashes into shit, random dudes talking, train crashes into shit, dudes talking, train crashes into shit, dudes talking,...,SPOILER denzel stops train SPOILER END, the end.

I totally don't understand why critics praise this movie so much. Is it because Tony Scott directed far better movies once upon a time in the 80s and 90s? Or is ti just because Denzel is in this one?? I really don't understand it. But well as you know, this review represents only my personal opinion.

All in all i have to say that this movie is by far one of the most boring "action movies" that i have seen this year. The movie doesn't succeed in delivering great emotions or anything else but a train that constantly crashes things until the movie is over...eh yeah..that's really it. It's even worse that you don't even give a shit about the characters themselves. Tony Scott did waaaaaaay better movies in the past (Last Boy Scout, Beverly Hills Cop II,etc.) better watch one of those or even better watch "Speed" instead of this disappointment called "Unstoppable".

Final Verdict: 2 out of 10
