The Huntsman is going to Winter's War

The first trailer for The Huntsman: Winter's War got released today.
Being a prequel to the fairytale reimagination, which was Snow White and The Huntsman, it's actually kind of weird that a prequel to Snow White without Snow White in it actually came to be. As a typical case of a (sort of-) sidecharacter being more popular than the titular protagonist herself, Universal pulled off the Jack Sparrow-treatment and seemingly based this entire franchise now around Chris Hemsworth and his heroic Huntsman character.
Now having complete freedom of creativity laid out before them, The Huntsman: Winter's War doesn't have to stick to any Grimm fairytale and thus flatout combines several fantasy characters in one movie. With the premise being that the evil queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) teams up with her sister, the Ice Queen Freya (Emily Blunt) to take over the land, it's once again up to the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) and his sidekick, female Warrior Sara (Jessica Chastain), to stop them.
How exactly, The Huntsman actually ends up working in Ravenna's favor later on and why even huntsmen are called "Huntsmen" and not simply "Warriors" or "Forest Warriors" remains questionable.
However, Huntsman: Winter's War still has to prove that it has more to it than being a simple cash-grab spawned by the admittedly creative albeit flawed Snow White and The Huntsman. Especially considering that most effects shown off in the trailer look a bit cheap and that this prequel doesn't have the basis of the original fairytale standing behind it, this prequel has a lot to bring up in order to avoid being forgettable.

We will find out when Winter's War begins on April 22, 2016.
