In the wake of CW's "DC Films Special", a brand new fully fledged trailer for the upcoming "Suicide Squad" got released.
Showing off tons of brand new footage, the trailer shows of many new aspects of the movie that it seemingly gets right, and some that are still to be worried about.
First off, the used track "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen fits the trailer like a charm. With the song being awesome yet very chaotic, it fits the tone of the trailer very well. On top of that, many one liners in the movie and teased action sequences look spot-on for the Suicide Squad. Especially Harley Quinn (played by Margot Robbie) feels like she is going to turn out as the show stealer here. Also, Jai Courtney might just have scored his best role to date as Captain Boomerang, but we'll see.
Looking at the downsides, Jared Leto as the Joker is still quite something of a mystery. Even though Leto is an A-class actor, one cannot shake off the feel that even in this trailer with way more footage of him shown, he still feels kind of off. The Joker seemingly is a lot more jokey, flashy and more true to the more "campy" oriented comic book style. With that said, don't expect a dark and serious Heath Ledger kind of Joker...cause that's sure enough not what "Suicide Squad" itself is aiming for.
Lastly, the CGI-overkill in the final parts of the movie comes off as very weird but somewhat fittingly comic bookey in the trailer. With somebody seemingly wearing an allmighty green exo-skeleton, we still have to wait and see what's up with that.
"Suicide Squad" will hit theaters on August 5, 2016.
